Braintree Community Hospital

Our services

In January 2010 Braintree Clinical Services Ltd (an Arkanum company) was awarded the contract to operate the new Braintree Community Hospital. This was the first time a private company had been awarded a contract to operate a NHS hospital. With CQC registration in place the doors were opened to the public in April 2010. Specialist services were provided by a mix of NHS and independent sector organisations including: Central Essex Community Services; PDL, providing diagnostic endoscopy services and Ashlyns Organics, a local business specialising in locally sourced and organic food. BCSL was sold to Serco in 2011.

Arkanum provided strategic advice, commercial support to, and managed the bid for a private/public partnership in its successful bid to become lead provider of a new community hospital. Arkanum provided support to the clinical services team, helped to develop the business case and the corporate structure based upon the formation of a not for profit organisation.

Independent Sector Treatment Centres

Arkanum provided strategic and tactical support to Tribal Group in forming Mercury Health which successfully bid for and implemented a number of projects in the Department of Health programme of independent sector diagnostics and treatment centres. We acquired the support of Health Inventures a Colorado based ambulatory care business and the Hospital for Special Surgery in New York, who helped to design the operational solutions for the new centres.

Arkanum provided Directors to lead the business and facilities development teams in Mercury and also provided bid and project management for Mercury Health's primary care business. Mercury Health was later sold to Care UK.
