Community Healthcare Services
Central Essex Community Services
Arkanum was commissioned by Mid Essex PCT to support the transferring of its provider arm initially to arm’s length status and later to full independence. Arkanum helped to develop the required business cases and corporate structuring advice and successfully supported bids for a number of new services taken on by CECS . This work enabled CECS to achieve significant operational savings and new business. Subsequent to CECS becoming a social enterprise in April 2011 Arkanum continues to work in partnership to develop their business.
GP Business Support
Arkanum has provided consultancy and business support to several GP practices/provider organisations over the last three years. These have included strategic analysis and market review to support business growth and development in the face of significant market and policy changes. We have also conducted specific facilitation sessions for management/partnership teams, and have provided successful bid management and support for projects to deliver APMS GP Services and prison healthcare services. Our clients have been largely focussed in the Bristol area, including BrisDoc, Hanham Health and GP Care.
GP and Walk In Centres
Commissioned by the PCT, Mercury Health was awarded the contract in 2006 as part of the first wave of primary care outsourcing to set up and manage additional primary care capacity in a deprived area near Stoke Newington. An Arkanum Project Manager led the mobilisation process to deliver the new service within just six weeks of signing the contract with the PCT. This involved commissioning and equipping a new facility, recruitment and training of GPs, nursing practitioners and non clinical staff and implementation of an IMT solution. Protocols and pathways for the operation of the GP practice, which included a nurse led walk-in centre, were established and integrated to the local health economy. Arkanum conducted a similar project in 2010 for Care UK to set up a ‘Darzi Centre’ GP practice and Walk in centre in a deprived area of Birmingham.
Human Focus
Arkanum acquired Human Focus Limited, a company specialising in rehabilitation therapies including CBT. The business was expanded to include a wider range of clinical services and later acquired the Workplace Health Connect contract from the Department of Work and Pensions. This was a two year pilot service funded, managed and quality controlled by the HSE, designed to give advice on workplace health, safety and return to work issues to small and medium sized businesses in England and Wales. Arkanum project managers established the West Midlands pathfinder organisation working in partnership with the HSE, to offer a problem solving visit service to provide in depth advice via an initial visit, written report and a follow up visit. The project involved recruitment and training of a visiting workforce of health and safety advisers, implementation of scheduling and reporting systems as well as quality assurance systems to ensure consistency of approach. The business was later sold to Parabis Limited.
